R.R. ! Coghlan, B. C. Dear Brother & Sister
I was pleased to get your letter telling me some particulars of Mother’s last days & the funeral. to (?) you say it would have been a comfort to us remaining if she had left a dying testimony, but we know her future happiness does not depend upon it, although it would have been so welcome to us. Her going is another proof that one generation passeth away and another cometh and we too must soon follow. Oh may we each be prepared for that solemn change, “eternernity tremen- dous sound to guilty souls a dreadful wound but Oh if Christ & heaven me mine how sweet the accents how divine. As I get older I fell more & more the importance of being right at last when heart & flesh fail how little it matters about earthly things then, though they often seem to weigh us down now, & we get weary with the jorney & I ooften say with David forsake me not now I am old & grey headed. The Lord said to Martha “thou art careful and troubled about many things but one thing is needful”. I sometimes look around at the wicked & think what a terrible portion is theirs (although some of them will afflict this life) without God & without hope. I was pleased to hear you are still able to work & glad to say I am too, although I am now got very shaky, especially me left hand & foot. I suspect our sisters hardly know what to do for the best & Mary not able to let her promises makes it more difficult. Remember me to Mary & love to you each Your Affectionate Brother, Fred
